This memory card game is perfect to play with the kids. Play at home or take the deck away on holiday for instant fun on the go. This step-by-step uses 10 different tape patterns to form a deck of 20, but it is totally up to you how many cards you create. If you have a great memory, make loads!
Materials
- Lots of different patterns and colours of mt tape
- 1 x slim mt tape
- 1 x 50mm yellow mt tape
- Neutral coloured card – enough to make plenty of cards
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Craft mat
- Craft knife
- Ruler
1. First draw out your cards. You could draw around a card from a deck you already have at home or choose your own custom size. Use your scissors to cut nice, rounded corners. Repeat until you have 20 cards.
2. Place a card on your cutting mat and apply your 50mm yellow tape across the middle. Add a strip of slim blue tape above and below and use your craft knife to cut away the access. You can do a few at a time if you have a larger cutting mat. Do this to every card in your pack and try to keep them as uniform as possible to avoid any cheating while you’re playing later on!
3. Flip over your cards and grab your patterned tapes. Create a 4cm square of tape ( you can use small bits of tape on your cutting mat to make a very obvious template to cut within) then use a ruler and craft knife to cut the tape. Apply the same pattern on two cards, and repeat with different patterns and colours until you have 10 pairs of matching cards.
4. Now it's time to play! Shuffle your deck and spread them out on your table, yellow-side up. Flip two cards over and try to match them. If there’s no match, flip them back over and try again, remembering the placement of certain patterns. The person with the most matches at the end of the game wins.
