How To Use Washi Tape in Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking and junk journaling season is all year round but as summer comes to an end, I’m sure there are so many memories from the past few months that you want to record in a beautiful scrapbook page that’s personal and unique to you. Don’t worry if you don’t have many tools because I’m here to show you that washi tape is all you need! The low-tack nature of washi tape and its paper-like texture means it’s extremely versatile and easy to rip and stick (or peel off and stick again!) making it the perfect partner for scrapbooking. No glue needed.

Decorate with patterns

The one thing we know about washi tape is the sheer variety of patterns and colours - perfect for scrapbooking. The number one use of washi tape is to decorate! If your page is feeling a little dull or empty, it’s a great way to inject some life and movement to your page - rip your washi tape to create a rough edge and stick where you feel there are gaps. My favourite way to decorate is by layering different patterns and thicknesses on top of one another to create some dimension!

Fill backgrounds

Washi tape gives you quick and easy pops of instantaneous colour - the perfect cheat with no fuss!  Take advantage of the blocks of colour and pattern by sticking your tape side by side or layering different colours to fill your plain scrapbook with a colourful background. Experiment with cutting your washi tape into abstract shapes or pairing different colours to create some interest - it revives a simple white page into a colourful surface for you to begin sticking down your photos. Washi tape has maximum impact with minimal effort!

Create easy borders

After collecting the photos you want to use, make them stand out by creating easy frames by using vibrant washi tape to draw focus to your precious images. A good tip is to use a slim tape or to cut your washi tape horizontally so you don’t take up more space than your photos! Go edge to edge and make a border or cut small strips to roughly stick the corners of your photos down or even cut triangles to create faux photo corners. Variety is key to a good scrapbook!

Caption your memories

If you want to note down your memories but your scrapbook is now overloaded with pictures and stickers, I like to use writeable MT washi tape to caption my selection of photos! Writing in a scrapbook can be difficult if you don’t have a clear and even surface so this washi tape has been made specifically to write or draw on providing a great surface to stick on top of your photos so they can be seen even in a full scrapbook! It keeps the casual and crafty look of a scrapbook and can be moved around to your liking!

So what are we waiting for? Collect your favourite photos and grab some washi tapes and let’s get scrapbooking!
