mt Art Contest

Kamoi Kakoshi - the mt factory- is holding the 5th mt art contest to celebrate its 100th anniversary. For the first time, artists all over the world are invited to submit an original drawing made with mt tapes.

Read this article to know what you need to do to win one of the amazing prizes.

 

Application Period

October 1st, 2022 (Sat.) ー April 30th, 2023 (Sun.)
Must arrive no later than April 30th, 2023 (Sun.)

 

Application Requirements

Anybody can apply regardless of age, gender or nationality.

 

Application Method

All applications must be made by postal mail.

*We do not accept any applications by e-mail, data delivery services, courier services or direct delivery by applicants.

Screening results will be announced in May 2023.

In addition, at the mt factory tour vol. 12 which is scheduled to be held next year, we are planning an exhibition for the prize-winning works, as well as an awards ceremony.

 

Submission requirements:

• Submit an original drawing in an A2 (420 mm x 594mm) format.

• Any type of base paper can be used as long as the size is A2.
(It must be not thicker than 3 mm)

• Be sure to use mt for the artwork.

• mt can be adhered partly or fully.

• Only 1 work may be submitted per 1 applicant.

• Please be sure to write the following information in the lower left corner on the back side of the work.
(Please write the information clearly in block letters)
Title of the work and applicant's name, address, phone number and e-mail address.

 

Rights and precautions:

• The copyright of the design belongs to the applicant, provided that the right to use the design will be granted to the organizer for an unlimited duration in which the design is used for the purpose of the promotional activities of this design competition, including advertisements, announcements and the exhibition.

• The design work must be original and cannot have been made public prior to the competition.

• The design work must not be made public without the consent of the organizer.

• The awarding of a prize may be rescinded even after the announcement of winners has been made, if the entered design work is identical or similar to a design work which has already been made public and/or the design work infringes on the intellectual property rights of a third party/person (including cases in which the infringement rights happen after the application).

• If there are any matters which are not described in this application guideline and arrangements need to be made, the organizer will make the decision.
The applicant may withdraw from the competition if he/she does not agree with decisions made by the organizer,
provided that the organizer is not responsible for paying any expenses incurred by the applicant in the application process.

• The organizer will, after receiving the artwork, pay special attention to the  storage and transportation of the work.
However, the organizer will not be responsible for any damage or loss of the work resulting from natural disasters and/or any other causes.

• The design work will not be returned to the applicant.

• Please refrain from inquiring about the result of the competition before the announcement.

• All underage applicants need to have the permission of a guardian before applying. Underage applicants must submit the written consent of his/her guardian if his/her artwork receives a prize.

Koji Iyama (Art director / graphic designer)

Graduated from the graphic design course at Tama Art University. Established Iyama Design after working at Nippon Design Center, Inc. and atom. Representative works: “Natsuichi” of Shueisha Inc., The Institute of Medical Science of the University of Tokyo, NHK's (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) year-long drama, “Ryoma Den,” ANA, “Inspiration of Japan,” ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., “AOHAL CLINIC,” and others. Mr. Iyama is currently involved in general planning at mt. Awarded various prizes in Japan and the rest of the world: The new face award of Japan Graphic Designers Association, Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity Gold Lion, New York ADC gold, silver and bronze prizes, England D&AD Black Pencil, One Show gold prize, Spikes Asia 2012 Grand Prix, Japan Sign Design Association Grand Prix, Tokachi Poster Award Grand Prix.

 

Noriko Misumi (Life Interior Decorator / Display Designer)

Graduated from Musashino Art University’s Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design.
Involved in window displays and styling at SAZABY, Ltd. (Current name: SAZABY LEAGUE, Ltd.). After going independent, participates in a wide range of activities:
Space displays for stores and exhibitions, styling for magazines and books, etc.
Also shares her thoughts on decoration ideas that are adopted in our everyday lives,
and the joy of handmade works. In February 2019, worked as an instructor for the masking tape edition of the “Deco Style that Colors our Lives” segment for NHK E-television show “Shumidoki!”
That same year, moved to her husband’s hometown Tsuruoka City in Yamagata Prefecture, and opened manoma, a café and specialty shop.
Currently also in charge of supervision for mt my life, which is content on mt’s official site.
Wrote the books “Mending Life,” “The Joy of Mending” and more (Published by SHUFU TO SEIKATSU SHA).

Yukio Tanibuchi (Senior Director of Kamoi Kakoshi Co., Ltd.)

Started working at Kamoi in 1984. Appointed as the senior director after serving as the director GM of the sales dept. and managing director. Since joining Kamoi,
he has devoted himself to the business promotion of tape for industrial use as well as insect traps. After an encounter with three women in Tokyo in 2006, he focused his attention on the new potential and affinity of Washi paper masking tape.
Created the world's first masking tape brand, “mt,” for stationery and chandlery.
Engaged in the planning of Kamoi's various events, such as “mt exhibition” and “mt school,” held both in Japan and around the world, in addition to commercial activities and product development.
