The annual 'mt factory tour' in Kurashiki, Japan celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. For 2 weeks in July/August, over 11,000 visitors came to explore the mt factory tour exhibition and as always it was quite a spectacle, with bikes, cars and even buses decorated in mt masking tape.
mt masking tape lovers near and far attended the tour and were able to learn about the history of the brand, discover the different and obscure uses of mt masking tape and purchase their favourite and limited edition tapes from the pop-up shop.
In this year’s shop, visitors were also able to purchase tape by weight in traditional pick n' mix style, enter into a lottery for a bag full of surprises and take part in a ‘catching tape’ challenge which allowed you to grab as much tape as possible in 20 seconds.
The 3rd annual art contest was held where people across the world could submit their artwork created using mt masking tape. Several winners were selected and awarded prizes and their artworks were on display in the gallery.
What made this event extra special was the spectacular “100 colours” installation (made from mt masking tape) by architect and designer, Emmanuelle Moureaux.
Inspired by the colour that overflows in the city of Tokyo, Emmanuelle moved from France to Tokyo. She has since been active in Japan creating architecture, space design and art, based on the concept of 'shikiri' that divides the space by colour.
